The abrupt ending of Netflix’s Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein season 1 guaranteed the show would be returning, and the second season focuses solely on Purva Awasthi’s abduction. Vikrant’s desperation to have his wife killed compelled him to commit heinous crimes. Born into a middle-class family, this was not the future Vikrant had envisioned for himself. He could sense that he was turning into a monster, but there was no stopping him now. He had already come too far, and he was ready to risk his life and sanity in the hopes that one day Purva Awasthi would be gone from his life. But can Vikrant ever get rid of Purva? Will his dream of reuniting with Shikha, the love of his life, ever come true? Let’s find out.
Spoiler Alert
Was Purva’s abduction a success?
After the contract killer double-crossed Vikrant, he decided to use the situation to his advantage. Instead of the hundred crores that Jalan had demanded, Vikrant lied about the ransom amount to his gangster father-in-law, Akhiraj Awasthi. Vikrant had every intention of taking a cut of the three hundred crores that he claimed the kidnapper had demanded. Akhiraj was completely against paying the ransom, but Vikrant came up with ways to convince him to meet the demands of the perpetrator. He pretended to be devastated and begged Akhiraj not to risk Purva’s life by attempting to kill the abductor. While Akhiraj agreed to pay the ransom, he was determined to track down the person who was after his daughter’s life. He contacted his friend’s son, Guru, for expert help.
Guru was a secret agent (of some sort) who operated in London, and he returned to India to help Akhiraj find his daughter. Guru and Purva were childhood friends, and Guru had fallen in love with her over the years, but Purva continued to be obsessed with Vikrant. When Guru studied Purva’s abduction case, he came to the conclusion that her husband was behind it. Vikrant stood a chance to be Akhiraj’s sole heir after Purva’s death, and that was reason enough to have her killed. Within days of landing in India, Guru had access to every piece of surveillance footage (I don’t think there is any point in wondering how) that was related to the bomb blast and even the failed Ladakh attack in season one. Since Vikrant, Purva, and Akhiraj were the only ones who knew about the Ladakh trip, it seemed obvious to Guru that the one person who could have leaked Purva’s whereabouts was Vikrant. According to the surveillance footage, someone had called Vikrant’s sister, Pallavi, before the bomb blast, helping her narrowly escape the disaster. Pallavi was interrogated, and she confessed that it was her brother who had contacted her. But Vikrant managed to handle the situation, stating that Pallavi did not have network coverage, and that was why she had to step outside the hall.
Meanwhile, when Jalan video called Akhiraj, Purva asked her father about the medication she was prescribed for her heart condition. She described the medicine, and her father told her the name. Jalan assumed it was a genuine conversation, but he was unaware that through the description of the medicine Purva had provided her father and Guru with the description of the place where she was held. After tracking down the number that called the nearest medical store around the area described by Purva, Guru had a lead. Guru was almost about to locate the car carrying Purva to the border when Vikrant intervened. He contacted Jalan and warned him about Guru’s plan. Jalan threatened to murder Purva, and he chopped off a portion of her ear, and Akhiraj witnessed the entire ordeal on video call. He requested Guru to give up and return home, but he refused to accept defeat.
Jalan did not intend to return Purva to her father; instead, he’d been paid to hand her over to Sherpa, a well-known gangster. Sherpa had kidnapped Jalan’s daughter and brother, and their freedom depended on Jalan’s success. Akhiraj agreed to pay Jalan the entire ransom, and he arrived at the designated spot in a bulletproof car. Sherpa and Jalan’s plan was to shoot Akhiraj the minute Purva opened the car door. In the penultimate episode of Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein season 2, Purva put her training to work and attacked Jalan’s sister, who was in charge of looking after her. With a gun in her hand, Purva started shooting Jalan and Sherpa’s men. Akhiraj stepped out of his car and used all his weapons to take down his enemy. Guru joined them, and together the trio was unstoppable. Purva made a break for freedom, but she tripped on a stone, and surprise surprise, she landed in Vikrant’s arms (a perfect Ekta Kapoor-esque shot). Purva returned home, and after her treatment, the doctor confirmed that she was out of danger. Vikrant’s plan to have his wife killed failed once again.
What stopped Vikrant from killing his wife?
After treating Purva’s wounds, the doctor told her family that she was pregnant. This was not the news Vikrant was expecting. He had already started planning her murder again, but the thought of killing his unborn child disturbed him. He wanted to reunite with Shikha, but he had also started to care about his baby. Vikrant wanted Purva out of his life, but he did not know how. Soon after her wounds healed, Purva, with her father and Guru, planned ways to track out the person behind the entire kidnapping and murder fiasco. She believed that the one who wanted her dead would attack her again and she could not rest until the person was killed. When Jalan reached out to Vikrant again, he saw a ray of hope. Jalan had to murder Akhiraj and hand Purva over to Sherpa for the safe return of his daughter and brother, and Vikrant was the only person who could help him do so. Dharmesh’s funeral was to be held soon, and Vikrant thought it would be the perfect time to kill his wife and brother-in-law.
While planning the murder, Vikrant hesitated, thinking about his unborn child. Jalan reminded him that he had turned into a monster a long time ago, and there was no point in taking his conscience seriously now. Vikrant agreed with him, but somewhere deep down, he continued to hesitate. He decided to run away, and he begged Shikha and her family to leave the country with him. Vikrant also advised his family to come along with him to Gyantse, where he had made arrangements to settle down with Shikha, but his father refused to do so. Suryakant had always been faithful to Akhiraj, and he did not intend to run away, especially now that his grandchild was on the way. According to him, if Vikrant continued to deny his involvement in the blast and abduction, he would not be penalized. He advised his son to stay, but Vikrant could not imagine living with Purva all his life. When he explained that he had also murdered Dharmesh, his father did not have an answer. There was no way Vikrant could get away with Dharmesh’s murder, and naturally, his only option was to run away.
During the funeral, Jalan instructed Vikrant to bring Purva out of her room and sit next to his father-in-law to make it easy for him to spot his targets. But when Vikrant went to Purva’s room and she asked him to imagine the heartbeat of their little one, he could not carry out the plan. He stepped out of her room alone and sat next to Akhiraj. Jalan struggled to identify his target because Akhiraj was not the only bald man at the event. Frustrated by the situation, Jalan started firing at random, which resulted in an intense shootout.
Why did Purva confront Shikha?
Purva was also extremely disturbed after finding out that Dharmesh had been killed, and all she wanted were answers. She suspected Shikha, and as much as she was obsessed with Vikrant, there were uncertain discrepancies in his statements that left her wondering if he was telling the truth. He had lied about not knowing Kaalikant when he clearly did, and he also claimed that Shikha, aka Dolly, was someone he knew but did not have any romantic relationship with. The photograph taken at the bus station told a different story, and Purva could not get over it. She was pregnant with Vikrant’s child, and even though she thought he might not be the honest man he claimed to be, she was too obsessed to hurt him. But when it came to Shikha, she would not hesitate to harm her. Since Purva suspected Shikha, it is likely that she had started to track her number, and that was how she had followed Shikha to the guesthouse. Shikha had her bags packed and was ready to leave, but Purva stopped her from reuniting with her lover. Will Purva find out Vikrant and Shikha’s truth? Or did she track her down to interrogate her about Dharmesh’s disappearance from Shikha’s wedding? We will get our answer in the next season, if Netflix decides to renew the show.
Was Purva’s mother alive?
At the very end of Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein season 2, a defeated Sherpa returned home and expressed his regret over not reuniting Purva with her mother. She was suffering from a terminal illness and was hopeful that Sherpa would bring her daughter to her. Sherpa is possibly her present husband, and Akhiraj likely shared a strained relationship with his wife. Maybe he wanted her dead, and she was left with no other choice but to leave Purva behind. The ending makes it obvious that she faked her death, but why? If Akhiraj loved his daughter with all his heart, why did Purva grow up with Guru and his family?
At the beginning of season two, Purva stated that she had spent fifteen years with Guru and his family, but why was it so? Why was she not sent to live with Akhiraj? Sherpa is more than just Akhiraj’s rival, and in season three we will find out more about their connection. Season two felt almost like a filler season; the abduction took center stage, and most details are yet to be revealed. In the final scene of season two, we witness a distressed Vikrant shooting in the oblivion. He was wounded, and he collapsed to the ground. Lying beside him was a heavily pregnant Purva. The final scene foreshadows perhaps a crucial scene from the next season. Will Purva and Vikrant run away? Who was Vikrant shooting? The abrupt ending leaves plenty of room for curiosity, and we can already anticipate that something truly drastic awaits us!
